San Francisco's Berlin & Beyond Film Festival is proud to launch its 2014-15 Season with the Berlin & Beyond Autumn Showcase. Five unforgettable works from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will screen in anticipation of Berlin & Beyond’s 19th annual edition next January. The day of award-winning cinema will begin with a rare 35mm screening of recently-departed Austrian documentarian Michael Glawogger’s indelible act of urban portraiture, Megacities (1998) at 11:00 AM, and Brigitte Krause's cross-cultural documentary Enemies/Friends (2013), set in World-War-One Japan, at 2:00 PM. The program continues with Petra Volpe's brilliantly interwoven tragic drama Dreamland (2013) at 4:00 PM, and at 7:00 PM with celebrated The Tin Drum director Volker Schlöndorff’s Diplomacy (2014), a drama of political intrigue that The Hollywood Reporter hailed as “a much better version of the similarly-themed The Monuments Men.” The action-packed female-led heist thriller Banklady (2014) by Christian Alvart (Antibodies, Case 39), which took home honors at the Chicago International Film Festival for female lead Nadeshda Brennicke, rounds out the evening at 9:15 PM.
