MADE FOR FOOD, really. ON ZA LINE’s porcelain LEAF DISH, currently on display at SUPERFROG Gallery and available in Tokyo Creators Garden both located in NEW PEOPLE, is not as delicate as it looks. Double-fired with high heat, the process seals the pores and burns out all toxins allowing the dish to be “glaze-free” and still be used for both food and display. The molded leaves are intricately preserved and expressed in their raw state as part of ON ZA LINE’s playful concept of “what is nature and how will we long for it in the future?” The two-women team from Tokyo has been exhibiting their art and installations in Europe and Asia. Food artists and caterers of Tokyo have found the LEAF DISH to bring a naturally striking presentation to their food display. (Hand-wash only, Bleach OK. The tips are delicate. )

The Garden as Science Fiction

We have found ourselves longing to return to nature and sooner or later, we believe we will. But what will nature look like in the future? What we think is “natural” and what our destination is what matters here and now. Our lives will continue and go on, but many of us are in a process of thinking about “nature” and what we feel is actually “natural.” At this moment, we do not know but we are comforted in knowing two things- that nature is becoming increasingly precious and valued higher. Secondly, we know that its a long way before we arrive at any fantasized vision of nature. While we cannot say that the pieces in the ‘Garden’ collection are the most ideal process, we think they are the next step along the way to enjoying this collection. The works in our collection are our effort to interpreting and understanding how we see nature.
