Traditionally folds into modern cool!
It appears to be the simplest thing. The idea is taken from traditional Japanese “furoshiki” folding. Furoshiki is a large scarf that is used to be folded into a carrying bag or a case. Place the objects you’d like to carry in the middle of the furoshiki, then take the adjacent two sides and tie them over, and then take the other two sides and tie together to completely encase all objects. The tied ends become straps or handles to hold. So, back to the product. A sheet of plastic (comes in nice colors!) made from 4 flaps that fold over your cards and cash with a nice grip. The plastic “stick” keeps the wallet sealed (without having to tie, the traditional way). This vibrant wallet / card holder is able to hold quite a bit, just by adjusting the folds to contain more. At NEW PEOPLE, it is probably the employees’ favorite product. Hands down, good design that should be passed on.

As part of the original products we have been introducing at NEW PEOPLE the Store, we are most excited about our collaboration T-shirts that we create together with Japanese artists. We have three unique designs from Yoshitaka Amano, three from Junko Mizuno who has positively incorporated “NEW PEOPLE” into her designs, three from Yuichi Yokoyama, Noritake, Kazmo, and more! Recently, directer Katsuhito Ishii (The Taste of Tea) came for a visit for the US premiere of his new movie SORASOI at VIZ Cinema and gave us a SORASOI original design. We use 100% organic T-shirts that feel good and clean on your skin. You can’t find these designs anywhere else!
Traveling with Yoshitomo Nara Now in Stores
The long awaited first DVD of our Japanese artist documentary series “NEW PEOPLE ARTIST SERIES 001: Traveling with Yoshitomo Nara” will be available on September 15th. Watch “solo” artist Yoshitomo Nara open up to the idea of a team effort to create a whole new project. The documentary closely follows him making collaborative work, meeting and making new friends around the world, and finally, overcoming this great challenge. Chatmonchy’s Second Album is Full of Life
Their second album “Seimeiryoku” (Life Energy), some say, is three piece band Chatmonchy’s pinnacle work. Written and performed by three girls that live in “the now”, the title well reflects the brilliant and lively thirteen tracks. Although each song is very unique, the album maintains quality and realness portrayed by the three members from beginning until end. Featuring hit CM song “Bus Romance”, and “Sekai ga Owaru Yoru Ni (On The Night The World Ends) ” the main theme from the movie FUNUKE: Show Some Love, You Losers!
