Supporters and NEW PEOPLE Raise Over $6,000 for Japan Relief

Today we are posting this news to THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS SHOWN SUPPORT for the Northeastern Japanese communities. Through our fundraising events, and from our donation box alone we have raised $6007.51 so far, and today we handed over this sum to JCCCNC who has organized the NORTHERN JAPAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND.
It has been over a month and a half since the devastating earthquake and tsunami destroyed parts of Northeastern Japan. Japantown, San Francisco has been an amazing force in bringing together fundraisers after fundraisers in response. NEW PEOPLE has also organized events and opportunities for Bay Area supporters. WE WILL CONTINUE with fundraiser events and the donation box – so please come join us to help with this cause!

NEW PEOPLE is holding a third fundraiser film event. This time the film is our beloved Kamikaze Girls! This all-time favorite film is based in Ibaragi, Japan, which is also an area vastly damaged by the recent earthquake and is striving to recover as we speak.

Artists Help Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Fund is responding to the immediate needs of survivors as well as short-term to long-term recovery projects undertaken by the affected communities. Founded by Dice Tsutsumi, an art director at Pixar Animation Studios who was also behind 2008 Totoro Forest Project to help preserve Sayama Forest in Japan and Sketchtravel Project. We are partnering with Give2Asia, which has a local team based in Tokyo to assess the current situation and to obtain more information on the needs of survivors. Give2Asia helped animation industry famous Totoro Forest Project efficiently send fund to Japan and has a great reputation when it comes to humanitarian efforts in Asia.
